Cross Country Challenge

Cross Country Challenge

On Wednesday 16 November, the Year 8 Cross Country team travelled to Harrow to compete in the Secondary schools cross country challenge.

There were over 10 different schools that entered the competition and over 80 other runners within their age group.

This was the first time many of them had competed in a cross country competition. When they started, they were all full of energy and sped off ahead.

Alicia set the pace from the start and was leading straight away. The others students were all running at a good pace and found their place within the other competitors.

It was an excellent performance from Alicia, who won the race by a very long way. Lia was the next to finish from St Mary’s, coming in 5th place. Charlotte H and Charlotte S were not far behind.

The Year 8 students had a great race and did St Mary’s School proud with their achievements.

St Mary’s hosts ISGA Gymnastics Championships

St Mary’s hosts ISGA 2 Piece Gymnastics Championships

We were delighted to host the eighth I.S.G.A 2 Piece Gymnastics Championships on 12 and 13 November. St Mary’s has a strong tradition of hosting a wide range of educational, developmental, social and sporting events and, as a school in which gymnastics plays such an important and successful role, and we were pleased to take the opportunity to host an I.S.G.A event for the first time.

The School hosted participants from schools from all around the country including local schools Maltman’s Green, The Royal Masonic and Wycombe Abbey. In total there were 82 teams and 447 gymnasts! St Mary’s girls placed in many of the categories including third place in the Under 15s and 4th place Individual for Freya in the Under 15s.

Mrs Ross, said “We were delighted to host the I.S.G.A event. It was heartening to see the enthusiasm of all the competitors. At St Mary’s we recognise that the benefits of competing far exceed the joy of winning; good sportsmanship, enjoyment of the event, working towards gradual improvement and setting goals, pushing your own boundaries, and of course meeting new people, are all important elements of the experience. The I.S.G.A 2 Piece Gymnastics Championships were an ideal opportunity to see these benefits in practice. ”
