Orla, Year 7, wins prize for National Geographic poetry competition

Orla, Year 7, wins prize for national poetry competition

The Orangutan Foundation teamed up again this year with National Geographic Kids Magazine to launch a children’s writing competition to great success! They received more than 300 entries, and were enormously proud and impressed with the creativity and insight expressed in each of them.
Each child wrote a story or poem to the theme of ‘The Orangutan’s World’, and every entry did a fantastic job at highlighting the problems that orangutans and their rainforests face. Selecting the winners was an incredibly difficult undertaking as the standard was so high, but our guest judge Joanna Lumley was finally able to select her favourites!
Orla was awarded 3rd prize in her age category for her wonderful poem, well done Orla.

Year 7 Netball teams gains Bronze in PGL tournament

Year 7 Netball teams gains Bronze in PGL tournament

On Friday, 26 Year 7 and 8s made the long journey to Devon to play in the PGL netball tournament on their weekend tour. The Saturday and Sunday saw some incredibly closely contested matches for all three teams. On Saturday night, after playing three or four matches out of six it emerged that Year 8 were 4th in their pool, year 7 Red were in 14th in theirs and Year 7 blue were in 1st position in their pool.
Sunday was tough, all the teams had to play some really difficult opposition which led to a couple of draws, a few losses and a win or two. After the Round Robin of matches (each team played six games) we were hopeful of some semi-final spots. Year 8 were narrowly pushed out of semi-final position by a very good quality team from Cardiff. Year 7 red had not qualified either but Year 7 blue had qualified into the semi finals.
The semi final for Year 7 blue was tough. The opposition from St Johns College was too much and we unfortunately lost that match. This however did mean the Year 7 blue team finished in joint 3rd position receiving bronze medals.
To truly understand these achievements it is important to say there were 14 teams in the year 7 tournament and 10 in the year 8 tournament so some brilliant performance to finish as high as we did.
Thank you to all of those girls that came, for a competitive and fun weekend.
